The Lutheran doctrine of vocation is a hidden gem of the Lutheran Reformation. Justification by grace alone gets most of the press, and rightly so. However, when it came to daily life, vocation had just as large an impact. No longer under the demand of trying to please God, the Christian has a new purpose for his or her time and talent; that is neighbor. Not only that, but God lifts the Christian to a startling degree by making him or her his coworker in his economy of love. He puts on the Christian as a mask to carry out acts of love in the world.
